Singapore – Avaya Singapore, a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services, is making it easier for small businesses and small branches of enterprises in Singapore to migrate to Internet Protocol (IP) telephony. Avaya Quick Edition is an innovative Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based peer-to-peer solution that is ideally targeted to very small sites or small branch offices such as small medical or legal offices and other professional services firms, retail outlets and chain restaurants.

The system is simple to set up and use, with all the software in the phone and no need for a communications server or advanced installation skills. When the Quick Edition IP phones are plugged into the local area network (LAN), they automatically "discover" each other. In minimal time, users have access to the most commonly used telephony applications, including voicemail, conferencing and auto-attendant. As an office grows, new employees can be added to the system by simply adding a new phone.

According to Access Markets International (AMI) Partners Inc, a leading market intelligence firm that focuses on small to medium enterprises (SME) technology trends, Singapore SMEs are on track to spend more than US$23 million in 2008 - up from US$15 million in 2006 - on systems and software that will enable them to make and receive phone calls over the Internet. In the Asia-Pacific region outside of Japan, the market for Internet telephony is scheduled to cross US$650 million this year.

AMI says SMEs in Singapore and across Asia-Pacific are all the more interested in making VoIP calls because of the need to communicate across vast distances in Asia, the US and Europe.

In addition to Avaya IP phones, the solution offers the Avaya G11 Gateway, which enables access to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

"Avaya Quick Edition is an excellent option for Singapore’s small offices and branches because it is easy to use and manage," said Eric Tan, Country Director, Avaya Singapore. "Avaya is able to extend the benefits of intelligent communications to an expanded group of customers, who can take advantage of efficient, flexible IP telephony, with growth paths that can be adapted to their business needs."

The distributed nature of peer-to-peer technology provides business continuity advantages by eliminating a single point of telephony failure. The phones also automatically back up one another’s voice mail, ensuring availability.

Administration is easy, too. A standard secure web browser enables users or system administrators to manage the phones either locally or remotely. The user interface makes it simple to navigate options and features.

The solution offers the flexibility to migrate to more advanced Avaya IP solutions if business needs change or functionality requirements outgrow the capabilities of Avaya Quick Edition. Businesses can keep the phones and upgrade the software, providing investment protection.

Avaya Quick Edition is available in Singapore through Avaya and its authorized distributor, ECS Computers (Asia) Pte Ltd.

“Avaya Quick Edition will be a natural for small business customers, who enjoy the flexibility of technology solutions that are easy to install and manage,” said David Yeo, Assistant Vice President, ECS Computers. "IP telephony is generating interest in businesses of all sizes, and the new Avaya system provides compelling advantages for small offices." The list price per phone ranges from US$395 to US$585.

The price includes the IP phone with embedded software. The Avaya G11 Gateway, which supports up to 4 analog trunks, is also available to connect the IP phones to the PSTN. The price of the gateway is US$375.
