Toshiba Corporation Selects Avaya IP Telephony Solutions to Connect 12,000 Employees

  • Tokyo Headquarters to host one of largest SIP-Enabled IP telephony implementations in the world

Sydney, AUSTRALIA – Avaya Inc., (NYSE:AV) a leading global provider of business communications software, systems and services, today announced that its Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-enabled IP telephony solutions have been selected by Toshiba Corporation for deployment at their headquarters building in Tokyo, Japan. When completed in early 2005, Toshiba will host one of the largest SIP-enabled IP telephony implementations in the world.

Avaya will provide Toshiba, one of Japan’s largest companies, with IP telephony solutions, including Avaya Communication Manager, Avaya Media Servers and Avaya Converged Communications Servers; the network will connect 12,000 employees. Key factors for Toshiba in the selection of Avaya are the high voice quality and scalability that Avaya IP telephony solutions can deliver.

SIP is an industry standard that enables users to conduct multimedia communications sessions that can incorporate voice, video and chat, or more. Today, Avaya SIP solutions enable users to establish workgroup “buddy lists” on a desktop phone or on a PC- or laptop-based softphone, through which they can see the availability of their colleagues and their preferred means of communication, as well as set their own. Users can launch a call or instant message by simply clicking on a colleague’s name. SIP enables enterprises to accelerate and simplify real-time communication across multiple points of contact, increasing control, collaboration and productivity.
